24" or 30" monitor for eyeinfinity?

I'm thinking of going for the Dell U2412M and eventually having 3 of them with a triple monitor stand. Or I could splash out and get a U3011 and buy 2 more later.

One issue is that there are no triple stands big enough for 30" monitors only 24". The screens will be used for Eyeinfinity gaming so will be at an angle. I wouldn't be able to use the packaged stands as I need some like the XFX to lift the monitors up high off my desk. I would need a 16:10 ratio.

Also i sit at a normal desk (with a keyboard between me and my monitor) so would a 30" be way too close?

I presently own the following monitors.
Dell 2407WFP + Dell U2412M (Backup)
The U2412M makes a great screen an very affordable (Great for you considering eyefinity)

Been honest, I am in the market for an upgrade, an from that I too am looking at 30" monitors. I exclusively look at Dell, there build quality is excellent.
Now the Dell U3011 in End of Line, so if your go down the 30" route, hold off another month (I am) for the proposed Dell U3014 been released soon.

I can't tell you what route to go, but I'd recommend the 3x 30" when you can afford the extra screens (The route, I might consider  )
Lets face it, 3x 30" is going to be far more impressive when playing games.
As for mounting them, can't you buy Three individual wall mounts with adjusters, an get the screens aligned?

Happy shopping.

Most people worry about trying to get good FPS on a Single 30" monitor

And there you looking at running 3 of them in eyefinity...

I have 3 x Dell U2410 at present in Eyefinity and also use the XFX stand (grabbed off MM ;))

I found that the 24's are more than adequate for my viewing distance. Reckon that 30's would be a wee bit big

I did have an issue with the monitor stand though....it is HOOOOOOOOOGE. As it comes out of the box, there is a lot of 'stealth fighter' shaped plastic around the base. On my desk, the base took up the majority of it and i then had no room for keyboard and mouse . I ended up having to take all the plastic off the base and then mounting the insides straight on to the desk itself, screwing it down so as to avoid toppling. Have had no issues with it now...only thing i want to do next is slightly router out the top of the desk so that the base is flush with the desktop.

Cool you have any pics please? :)

Still not sure whether to pay extra for the U2410. I do a little but of photo work in Lightroom but mostly gaming.

I can get some pics when i get home later on.....will take pics of the base area too.

I did originally have 3 x Benq 24's on the desk, but managed to get the Dells at a very good price, all three for the price of 1. Only downside is that one has a constant green line on it on the far left of the screen and another has a line appear under certain colours, but that is to the right of the screen, so is not really noticable in the Eyefinity set-up

Thanks. Do you find the bezels thin enough?

I've read of TFt reviews:

Responsiveness - They are all very close really on the most part but I'd have to give the slight edge to the U2412M in practice. There is slightly less motion blur but a little overshoot as a result.

Input lag - pretty close but the U2412M is slightly lower at 9.4ms average, compared with 14.4ms on the U2410 (game mode).

how are your screens for gaming?

TBH, I don't really notice the bezels. Have had an Eyefinity set up for a while now, so am used to them really.

The monitors are fine for gaming too. Throw a whole load of different stuff at them from FPS (BF3, CoD BO2) to slow paced space action (EvE), SWTOR (yep, I still play) and also find them great for some FSX action.

The only thing that I find a bit of a niggle is the heat that you get from them. It is a lot warmer compared to the BenQ ones, but on the upside, I dont have to have the heating on when gaming.

I will see if i can get some video of them in use, but can't promise that will work as have never done something like that before, but will give it a go :D

i prob wont use portrait that often and having 1 30" and 2 24" in landscape mode will be a pain to set up as they will have different resolutions. Does Eyeinfinity even work with different res monitors? And the triple monitor stands dont support 30" :(

Been looking at 27" but no 16:10 :(

Cool thanks :)

maybe I could go for 1 U2410 in the middle and 2 cheaper U2412M.

Normally with Eyefinity you would want to keep to three of the same panel. This helps with keeping colours as uniform as possible and also as Seanoog says, it keep the bezels uniform too.

Apparently thats one of the benifits of CrossFire over SLI, its support for moniters at different resolutions + custom resolutions (Games might not support them)

But a better point made by shelster, having moniters from the same usage hours/range/batch would have more accurate colours.

Well thats for you to think about.
Still waiting Dell... Any U3014 news?

Whats yr PC spec? chaparral mentioned it was hard getting good fps on a 30" monitor?

Dell 2407WFP (1900X1200)
i5 2500k (4.4GHz)
2x 6970 2GB (Stock)
16GB
256GB SSD.

Thats the main ones, not slow.
I play most games with v-syne enabled an crossfire disabled.
The only games I enabled crossfire is Metro 2033, BF3, Hitman.
