Hey!
I'm back from uni for 2 weeks and thought I'd put together a PC from some parts I've got spare.

But, the PSU I have doesn't have enough cables. The 24 pin motherboard needs a +4 plug, but there isn't one on the PSU. Can I buy an adaptor and use a molex plug?
And the same goes for the atx 12v supply, motherboard wants 8 pin but the PSU only has a 4 pin available.

Buying a new PSU is out of the question :p

CHEERS!

So you only have a 20 pin (not 24 pin) ATX cable?

PSU could be woefully underpowered if its that old!

Should work with both, the worst that will happen is nothing at all will power on.

So will the motherboard will power fine with just 20pin? I should really just try it :P

The PSU is 250w bestec
Or
280 W mercury :p

I'm only running 9550phenom
1 seagate hdd
And 9800gt gpu (not gaming as the card is faulty on 3d )

I don't mean to be nasty about it, but your PSU is certainly the weakest link, and it may fail to work, or fail in use, at worst it could go pop and take out the motherboard, but that's not likely :(
