I'm in the market for a decent 24" screen - I like the look of this puppy and the budget suits. I'm upgrading from a 20" Dell widescreen. I want the 1900x1200 resolution. I am using a 4850 at the mo although an upgrade could be on the cards.

Can you think of better panels for under £300? What should I be looking for?

Thanks

Us LCD lurkers will all tell you that 300£ for a decent 24" lcd is impossible.

The one you link to is a TN panel which I really wouldn't recommend to anyone. The bigger a TN panel the worse the poor viewing angles is percieved.

Go to the local electronic store and have a look at TN based LCD's.
If TN is good enough for you. Then people have nice things to say about the: Samung 245b +, BenQ g2400w and the Acer g24

i would guess your 20" Dell was an S-PVA or similar quality? If so, the best thing you could do at this stage is try to see some 24" TN Film monitors in person and take a good, long, look at the viewing angles, etc. You might be one of those who cannot live with TN Films shortcomings (like me).

Obviously wasn't around when OcUK was selling £200 VA panels then.

(which were on the same level of quality as Dell 2407s)
only real problem with this one was that there were absolutely loads of problems with it, doesn't support HDCP, and you had to have bought them early on or you got total garbage.

But i know what you mean, had a damn good panel in them for the cash, shame about the quality control.

I think most the problems were in the start weren't they? When people were randomly getting TN panels instead of the VAs which lots were annoyed by.

ah gawd - I need a replacement asap and I'm in two minds what to do. I can stretch the budget if necessary but only to £400 or thereabouts. I am not able to see any in the flesh so to speak so am basing this on your fine judgment. I'm not overly picky by the way. I would like some height adjustment, and I will be playing the odd game, and will use it primarily for doing my degree.

Ah it's ok! I've managed to pick myself up a Hyundai W240d and a 4870 1gb for £390.
