Hi guys just wanted your advice

I have a 3 gig processor with 2 gig of RAM at present I have a ATI radeon 2400 pro

I'm looking to upgrade to the ati radeon 4830

Is the performance upgrade much better? is there another card i should go for - Im looking to improve the performance of gta 4 i don't want super duper performance just something better than what i have now

any advice would be great thanks guys?

The 4830 will destroy the 2400 Pro.

However, there are a number of considerations to be made. Firstly, how powerful is the PSU in your machine? Does it have a six-pin PCI-E connector?

Also bear in mind that GTA four needs a hell of a lot of power to run smoothly. What processor model do you have?

Hi its a 220v power supply and i have a pentium D duel core 3.00ghz! I know gta is a bit of a biatch but would it not even be playable at 800x600 on one of these cards!!! I dont have a massive budget - I realise that 220 watts is quite small but i dont have much else running on the computer. Doesnt the 4830 come with a converter to change the pci-e to a normal plug for the power connectors?

It should run OK at 800x600 I guess, maybe a bit higher. I'm not sure whether the 4830 comes with an adaptor; best off giving OCUK a ring and asking them. Some models do, some don't.

excellent - i have never been one for huge detail just like to be able to play a game even on low detail but with some speed. i reckon the 4830 may help me towards that!

Thats going easy on it :) The 4830 is in a completely different league, i'm not much into football but it's like comparing say manchester united to some fourth devision team.

Although a 3ghz pentium d (which can be compared to a amd athlon 3800 x2 2ghz or e2160 1.8ghz core 2 duo) will seriously bottleneck most new cards, certainly a 4830. The psu should be ok if it's a good branded one.

If you don't want to upgrade your proceesor the I would reccomend the 4670 512mb, especially if you don't mind lower detail.

By the way edit out that link, it's against the rules to link to competitors.

the 4830 is quite a bit better than the 4670, hence the price difference of about £40. Search around the web for a few reviews.

If your motherboard supports core 2 duo then I would reccomend getting a second hand e6xxx series. However you may need to pay a bit more to get a decent upgrade if your mobo doesn't support overclocking.

right i am going for the 4830 with the hope that one day someone will deliver a bran spanking new cpu to me at my door you never know might happen!
