2400PRO cpu usage during HD playback?

Hi all,

I have a dual core system and have recently fitted a ATI 2400pro as I read it reduces CPU usage during HD playback.

I have played both HD samples from Apple and also from the MS website (apple seems to be H.264 and MS ones are WMVs?).

CPU usage seems kinda high around 40% however when playing. Is this normal? I thought the whole point was that the CPU wouldnt be used at all?

AFAIK the 2400 Pro only provides full offload for VC-1. Only the 2600 and a few others with the new IVD provide full support for H.264.
Might wanna check elsewhere to confirm this though.

I recently built a media pc for a mate and installed an HD2600 Pro. Before installing it when playing HD DVD's through the onboard HDMI cpu usage was at about 90%, after installation was about 20-40%, so it sounds about right to me.
