just a n00b question really...

I have just aquired one of these monitors and whilst ver very impressed with how it looks, to be honest I really no nothing about how they work and what actually makes it a good monitor.

I haven't really played with any settings and whilst browsing the forums I hear reference to lots of different terms one of them being " screenies taken with V-Sync on" etc and I am just wondering what this actually is?

Also wondering if I should be taking any advice from any other owners of these monitors on what do do with the settings out of the box (currently they are all on default settings)

I mainly use the monitor for Windows work and occasional high res gaming such as BF2.

Any advice at all welcome.

Thanks

Hi Dale,

My understanding of Vsync (vertical synchronisation) is the ability for whatever you are viewing to match the refresh rate of your monitor (a sort of restriction on fps). You can normally relate this to something such as a game. However, turning it off can allow for higher refresh rates...higher than what is configured on your monitor.

HTH :)

BF2 seems ok. I have upgraded from a 2001FPW (20.1" TFT) where it was awesome but with BF2 not supporting the native res it seemed a bit stretched. I haven't got round to playing with any settings yet but i'm sure I can change the view to 4:3 or something if I decide I don't like it like that.

I did think it looked a little pastley (if thats even a word!) with BF2, but my friend assured me that it looked fine and I was just being picky!
