my brother in law wants a pc for browsing the net, and maybe a few non intensive games. something like an 8600GT ( i had one and it was ok for what i needed back then)

He already has monitor, Keyboard and mouse so all he needs is a tower an components, I'm not really sure where to start. I already have a copy of windows 7 unused so i said he could have that for free.

I like AMD so maybe a dual core from AMD, Graphics card needs to be able to handle 720p as he might want to put it on his tv an watch something now an again.

Is this possible with a £250 budget ?

Thanks.

Im not sure if it can be done for £250, unless you get 2nd hand parts iv spec somthing for £300, but not sure how perfect it is......Someone will prob do a better spec

I've been trying to make low end specs, and £300 is about as low as you can get it without using old parts.

You could just about manage £250-270 if you use the cheapest motherboard with integrated grapics and the cheapest component on everything.

Here is my attempt at £280:

Checking out OcUK's value bundles may be worth a try too on this budget. If you can salvage a second hand optical drive and hard drive, you will just hit the budget. It is difficult however. I would go with a NetTop based on an Atom, but if the person does still plan to play a few games at 720p, they will be limited by the cpu at that resolution and Atom is not quite as keen to deliver in those cases.

You can also risk it by going for a case/PSU combo to cut cost further. Getting a good PSU unit this way is a lottery, though.

I would probably get something along the lines of the following:

AMD Athlon II X3 425 ~ £54

ASROCK M3A770DE ~ £54

OCZ 2X1GB 1333MHZ DDR3 ~ £52

Western Digital Caviar Blue 250GB ~ £31

Sunbeam 3D Storm ~ £21

OCZ 400W Stealth XStream PSU ~ £30

LiteOn IHAS124-19 ~ £14

The total comes to around £256.
