I want to upgrade my Radeon 6950 because when playing a fully modded Skyrim, even if I the most performance friendly enb my framerate drops through the floor in some places from 60+ fps to around 9 or 10.

I've always used Radeon cards in the past, is it time to give Nvidea a go? I'd like a 4 gig card if at all possible. As the title says, my budget is £250

Thanks

Skyrim Modded can use more than his 2GB vRam, Frame Drops and stuttering can be a symptom of being out of vRam.

@ ajtupman, Do you monitor your vRam usage with something like MSI AB?

No I don't, but I do use Skyrim Performance Monitor and the vram isn't maxed out on that.

If it was though, I've still got the same problem haven't I, I'll still need a card with more vram? Or am I missing something. My system specs should appear in my new sig...

1080P? almost nothing uses more than 2GB @ 1080P, other than Skyrim but then it depends on just how much modding your running.

Having said that, i think 2GB just isn't future proof, i would rather have "too much" than "just enough"
But if your not using all of your vRam then vRam is not the problem with your Frames Drops, if you get a new GPU you could end up with the same problem.

Sorry for the delay ,I got called away. I've just checked my vram whilst playing Skyrim in the area (downstairs in Jorvaskar) that gives me 9fps with enb running and between 50 and 60 without enb. I'm getting conflicting reports. Afterburner says my vram is maxed out and Skyrim Performance Monitor is never above 1gb vram, but it's a steady line as if it's maxed and can't go any higher, even though it knows I have 2gb vram... Very strange

I'll check that forum link too ,thanks...
