Hiya, I posted on the graphics card section, but that was more a GFX question not overall system Q.

I am looking to upgrade my girlfriend's PC;

The current spec is;

AMD ATHLON 2700+
768MB DDR RAM
MSI KT6 DELTA MOTHERBOARD
GENERIC PSU
PNY NVIDIA GEFORCE 5700 ULTRA GFX CARD.

I was going to upgrade it to;

AMD X2 5600+ AM2
MSI K9AGM2 MOTHERBOARD
2GB OCZ DDR2 6400 RAM
DECENT PSU

That would set me back £250 all in.

There is a few combinations to knock the price down, changing the CPU to a 4800+ X2 AM2 makes it £230.

Changing CPU to a 4600+ X2 AM2 makes it around £205.

Is there any better spec for the same sort of money?

It will really only be used for the usual internet / itunes / Sims 2.

Thanks folks,

Sean

That looks fine.

The Intel boys will be in soon and spec'ing you a Intel system. Your see. :p

But no you cant get a much better system than that if your not overclocking.

Yea, personally, I have the C2D E6600, so I can't say im bias to AMD or Intel one way or the other.

The Intel setup that could be specced, was similar to above, but a E4300, which, im not sure, is really better than the 4600+/4800+/5000+ AM2 when not overclocking...

AM2 has a bit of future potential for upgrades for that system too im guessing...

Does that motherboard have onboard graphics? If not you will need a new graphics card as I very much doubt it supports AGP (not being from ASRock is the biggest clue).

Other than that it looks basically fine. :)

Hey :)

Yea, it has a ATI XPress 1250 chipset onboard VGA.

Im only *guessing* it is better than a 5700 Ultra Graphics card... I mean, the 5700 is very old now.

In a couple of months, I could always get a better card to use with that motherboard, as it has PCI-Express.

After I posted I saw your other thread in the graphics card sub-forum - if it is equivalent to an X700pro then that is roughly the same as a 9800pro which should be at least on a par with the 5700ultra if not a bit better. Too many comparisons to make it totally worthwhile but hopefully you catch my drift. :)
