My lad has £250 and wants a PC that will run elder scrolls online, wow, bf4 reasonably.

I've a case, drives, 480w tagan psu, ati hd5770 and 1tb sata hd.

I use to know what's what in the hardware world but I've grown old and lazy :D

Would love some suggestions.

Cheers

Just over budget, but the motherboard will give some overclocking capability if he buys an aftermarket heatsink at some point.

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
Total : £265.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Your PSU doesn't fill me with confidence...

I think the PSU is good, Tagan are solid in terms of rails/voltage.

Looks like I'll need to source an OS...I've only a version of XP Home Edition which I believe won't recognise over 3Gb of ram...so I'll need to reduce the budget to include win8 unless I can find an OS for free from mates in IT.

Ms do 90 days evaluation for window 8.1, you can use that for now then save up the money over the next few months and get the os near the end of the trial.
