If you had £250 to spend on a CPU and mobo for it, what intel processor would be the best bang for buck along with the mobo to go with itr.

Only going to be used for iracing sim game. Will probably attach a 980 or 970 to it.

Running a i5 2500K in my main rig for a few years and it hasn't missed a beat at 4.4, so want to stick with intel.

Cheers

I can maybe push to £300 for both mobo and cpu.

Furthermore if you want to upgrade to a 6xxx Intel CPU you will also need new DDR4 memory.

An alternative might to the 970 might be a 290X, generally stronger card, cheaper on ebay and will serve you better when DX12 titles become mainstream. Got myself a 290x recently for £180 + p&p.

Additionally are you unable to play games you want atm? As the next gen of hardware looks quite exciting, a node jump on both CPUs and GPUs (doesn't happen as often as it used to) and AMD are looking very promising next gen in both CPU and GPU.

THB, I don't think I would need a K processor, as this is a rig solely for the use in my Sim Racing Rig for Iracing, nothing else!
I would need memory as well, but obviously I would be pushing it a bit to include that in the £300 max I can go!
I might go for the 390 from AMD but that is for another day. :)

thanks

tbh, i would stick with your 2500K if its not missed a beat. there isn't really a reason to spend money to downgrade

It's not for my main rig, as I explained above. It is solely for a sim racing rig.

Looks not bad mate, maybe even squeeze a AIO cooler as well.

Will give that a mull over.
