I do know it's already out in Germany and people have been getting amazing clocks on low voltage. I.E. 4ghz on 1.14v, 4.5ghz on 1.35v

There out 10th August for the E8600 & the Q9650 i believe, in UK at least anyway. Then you should see prices come down on Overclockers i think.

Will prob get the 8500 myself, or a new mobo so i can go quad (my mobo dont support the yorkies) not decided yet, as its gotta be either 8500 or the mobo and then the quad much later on as im skint lol

thats what im getting !!

Sweet chip, screw all the not supported quads ! give us 5ghz on air :-)))).
May go for one of theese myself and use it in the main rig in sig, and when my 680i comes back from rma put the quad into it for a decent backup system. should be a nice jump from my athlon 1800xp socket a backup machine. ive got that many bits and pieces lying about going to waste.

Hey Cob, I've noticed you're selling/sold your rig in MM, out of interest what you planning on getting next? :D

Not sure yet. I'm back to my trusty E2180 for a while til I decide.

Maybe a Q9550 when their price stabilizes, maybe hold-fire for Nehalem in October.

Off Topic Blatant Troll:

Iraklis F.C the P5E is Ancient now! :o

No older than a X48 really seeing as they are only cherry picked X38's. I have had my P5E since a couple of weeks after launch. I have been through all the dodgy bios's and can say that, even with my PC2 8500 Ballistix it's never let me down. I have never had any of the memory divider problems that others seem to have had. It was a bit of a struggle between the 201 and 502 bios releases but i am on 605 now and it's great. It's had a Q6600 to 3.8Ghz, E8500 to 4.5Ghz and now my E6600 at 3.8Ghz with a fsb of 1900. Top board!!

Trolling git!! :p

X38 and X48 are the same chips really, the X48's are top bin. The reason for the rapid "update" was to officially support 1600FSB for the QX9770. Many X38boards can run at 1600FSB, but the X48 is certified for it.

Stick with the X38 and Q6600 for now, what you gonna get by changing, a slightly higher overclock on a dual core, or a small performance gain from switching to a Penyrn Quad.

Come Quarter 4 you can get an X58 "Bloomfield" and a Q???? 2.66Ghz Nehalem, although you'll need to add DDR3 memory 6GB or more would be ideal :P You should be on target with the budget for the CPU and Motherboard, (even with UK retailers marking up "new" items) you should get a Nehalem for £250ish, and the X58 shouldnt be much more than an X48 board. So that just leaves a little bit of saving to get the DDR3 (Assuming the rumours that motherboard makers could get DDR2 working on bloomfield is false)

i agree - put your money in your savings account and get a nehalem setup when the time comes and it stabalises

imo if you put £25 a month into your fund alongside your current budget - by the time the new platform is released you will have enough for
nehalem cpu @£250
a nice mid/high end board to support it @£150
4gb of ddr3 @£150 [going off todays pricing so it may be cheaper then]
the latest big gfx @£200ish

looking at a total of £750but you said you were spending £250 on cpu and £150 on the board anyway

this way you will have a killer system and ultimate bragging rights
