£250 to spend

Q9650. Best chip for socket 775 boards.

It's not a very good way to spend 250 quid though, you're probably best off sticking with the current chip or looking for a second hand quad core.

Well for a pure CPU upgrade on that budget - you can get a Q9650. Alternatively, a Q9550 is a cheaper option and only a touch slower, but you usually can't guarantee that you will get the superior E0 stepping like you can on the Q9650.

Edit: Lol, beaten to it.

However, have you overclocked your current CPU? If not, you could squeeze a lot of extra performance out of your E6750 if you have a decent motherboard and buy a good CPU cooler.

Another £50 and you could get an i5 set-up, much better than splashing £250 on what is essentially a dead socket now, wasted money imo.

That's a bit different. It's more a case of what's the total budget for ram/cpu/motherboard then as there's limits on which combinations will work.

I'd also very much recommend the UD5 and the i7 920, personally I would want 1600mhz ocz to go with this but budget 1333mhz will perform much the same.

edit: 250 total budget makes more sense based on the OP, but i7 can't be done for that price.

I think the i5 route will be your best bet, but like i said you still need at least an extra £50 to get that, when you factor in the chip, ram and mobo or either stick with s775 and get a q9650.

You need more Moonwah (£) for an i7 system!
Teejay has it right, i5 is your best route and you only need to pump a little more cash at it.
