hey all, im looking at getting one of these processors. is the 2600k far superior to the 2500k if i dont encode?
anyways, ive heard some people snatched the 2600k for 180 odd quid! have overclockers ever done this?
which would you guys recommend? if i can get the 2600k for 200 or less i will, if not, ill get a 2500k. but what do you guys recommend?

Depends what you use the computer for (the 2600K is faster for more than just encoding), and whether you can afford the 2600K without having to downgrade other components, however chances are the 2500K is plenty enough for you. Obviously if you can get a 2600K for similar money than a 2500K you may as well get it unless budget is really tight.

i use it for gaming, web browsing, watching movies and thats about it. and my budget was around 180 for a processor. but if i find a really good deal i can stretch to 190-195ish. ive been on ebay and asked a few of these shops selling the retail versions brand new if theyd take 190 for the 2600k, but im not holding my breath. I thought id ask on here anyways, if anyone knows whether theres a deal coming up or where i could find these deals of 180ish for the i7. thanks!

2500K is fine then. Ivy Bridge is apparently coming within a month so might be some EOL deals then, and probably some cheap second hand from people upgrading.

well, now you mention cheap second hand, its a bit late for ivy for me, i went ahead and purchased my mates asus sabertooth p67 board, 4gb corsair dominators (they were brand new, he just got 32gb of ram so he didnt need them) and a HIS Ati radeon hd4870 for 150 for the lot. i couldnt turn it down, that price was a bargain, the boards are still worth that alone. so yeah, im having to go sandy bridge. but i didnt want to buy a second hand cpu anyways, just in case. i was hoping theyd knock the 2500k down to about 140ish so i can afford a decent psu, are there any discount codes for OCUK (or anywhere else for one) at the moment?
thanks man

Google and HUKD for discount codes, I don't think OcUK like people giving them out over the forum, especially for their own store.

Edit: also sweet deal :D.

ah thats fair i suppose. well, considering im now just going for a 2500k, do you know of any discount codes for OCUK? even if i can shave 10-20 quid off, it will count towards my power supply and case.
oh yeah, while this thread is active, to save me opening a new thread, what do you think is a better case? the bitfenix shinobi or the coolermaster silencio 550? ive got about 50 quid to get a case with. thanks!
edit: yeah, thanks :) couldnt pass it up. plus, he needed some cash anyways, doing him a favour lol!
