Hi guys,

Had my 2500k for about a year now and I've noticed that lately my temps have been creeping up... - nothing to do with the weather :D

I recently updated the bios on my motherboard and that has allowed me to reduce the volts down to 1.3v from 1.35v but my temps always hanging around the 40 degree mark when idle. I go up to about 48 when in-game.

Should I be getting worried? I was considering re-seating/re-applying compound to the chip :(

Idles a tad high at 40c, try cleaning fans and reapplying paste

48c in load is really good or am I missing something?

Mines about 25-30c idle and 60-65c full load on a cheap ~£25 cooler with a slightly higher clock on the chip.

Is that 60-65c when stress testing with Prime 95 etc. ?

You won't get anywhere near that in games. No chance if your idle CPU temp is 25-30. That's most likely your GPU that is at 60-65.

To the original poster, 40 degrees is still not bad for 4.4GHz. But you could definitely get lower than that if you reapply some paste. The paste has probably gone a bit dry/dusty so might be worth removing the current layer on both the CPU & heatsink and adding more. I reckon you can go to 35 degrees or possibly lower if you have a good cooler. What's your cooler?
