Just upgraded from an e6750 c2d to a 2500k at stock. My video encoding has gone from around 10-15 mins to around 2.5. I can't quite believe the speed difference:)

Can't reccommend it enough:)

Seconded, I upgraded from a 2Ghz C2D (can't remember the model name :o) to a 2500K. Even at stock it's epicly quick, did go for a little 4.4Ghz OC but TBH it was pointless so but it back to stock.

I can't wait. I recently decided to build my own first PC. Was in America with a little cash and went and bought a new retail 2500K for £135. :) I also got some shiny RAM, but that's pretty much all I've got money for right now. :D

I'm coming from an old Dell laptop with 1.6Ghz and 1GB of RAM as my sole machine for the last 4 years nearly!!

you're going to want a motherboard, psu, graphics card etc as well before you can make use of the cpu and shiny ram ;)

2500k is stupidly awesome, it overclocks like a beast. we won't have another CPU like this for years in terms of speed and value.

Except for maybe the ivy bridge successor (3500K?), assuming thats at a similar price ;)

I went from a Q6600 3GHZ/GTX 260 to a i5 2500k 4.5GHZ/GTX 560ti and that's insane... My brother was like WTF when i played a few games :p

I went from a pentium to a i5. Wow was that an improvement. I was litterally killing my laptop, yet its ok with the basic tasks (msn, 5 tabs in chrome) but thats only cause of the 4GB RAM.

Yeah the i5 is amazing. I agree.

It was a case of night and day for some of you when upgrading to an i5 2500k. It's nice to see those sort of improvements when upgrading. :D

Definately agree and I came from an E8600 @ 4.3Ghz to whats in my spec now! Can't believe I didnt do it sooner but I had a Q9 smth alienware overclocked to 3.3ghz and at the time it was terrible but now I'm thinking it must have been the sli 8800gtxs in there, I got shot of the system and hit up a E8600 and never looked back!

You'd be surprised how much smoother World of Warcraft runs in the main cities now :D

No really, it used to max my CPU and my graphics card would be at 60% use... now it's the other way round!

or dare I say it perhaps 'Vishera' the first generation of 'Piledriver' based processors, Bulldozer with all the performance issues ironed out potentially. could surprise us, won't hold my breath mind but never know! :D

I do a lot of video encoding and am going to build a new PC for myself early next year.
I have a Q9550 now and just waiting to see what processor to go for then but nothing too expensive, 2700K or something maybe.
