2500k cpu

Am I ok with this in my pc for gaming? I plan to add a 1080 but my TV is 4k

Gaming is still ok on a 2500k, but they are starting to show their age in some more recent games (my 2600k is).

The PCIE 2.0 slot that 2500K will provide will slightly bottleneck your 1080. Just a hair.

No overclock... would 980ti be a better choice? 4k, in mind

Go with the 1080 then. Overclock the CPU as well, 4GHz is easy on stock volts, and even higher with a little tweaking.

Do the overclock bud, defaults to 3.3GHz, nearly everyone gets 4.3-4.5. That 33% increase is not to be sniffed at!
