2500K dilemma

Hi guys,

I currently game at 2560 x 1440 on the following :

i5 2500K @ 4.5Ghz
Noctua U12p
16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical
Asus P8P67 pro

Also, I have a Zotac Amp Extreme 1070 on the way.

The question I keep asking myself and need help answering is : Do I need to make the jump to a 6700K now whilst the prices are still relatively close to pre-Brexit (knowing the pound will likely fall further), or do I continue to throttle my trusty 2500K hoping it continues to be relevant for a couple more years?

I guess other things to consider are current resale value of my core rig now vs in a couple of years + the current cashback offer on.

Appreciate it's not the easiest thing to answer, otherwise I would have bought a new system by now! Maybe it is just the shock of having a CPU for 5 years!

Yea i'm not bothered about USB C or M.2, however I may go down the upgrade route now. Not sure there will be a decent time to do this again in the near term and I'm guessing the 2500K will only fall further behind as games start to move on.

Hopefully the 6700K will also have a 5 year shelf life!

My order ended up getting delayed so I bottled it and cancelled. It was a lot of money for probably not much return.

I think i'll wait for the next Intel iteration and make do with the Zotac amp extreme 1070 for the medium term.

thought I would post an update on this to those in a similar position to me.

Got my 1070 Amp Extreme running today and wow it really does give these 2500k/2600k a new lease of life.

GTA V at 1440p, very high everything at a steady 60fps whilst running below 50C. I am quite pleased
