How many threads should I specify on prime95 with a 2500k CPU? I thought it was supposed to select the max available itself but it's set to 2 and I thought the 2500k had 4 cores/threads?

EDIT: Also if the 2500k has 4 cores why on CPUID Hardware monitor and coretemp does it only show core0 and core1? Coretemp shows at the top 2 cores, 2 threads, confused!

Cheers

Have you disabled any cores in the Bios?

hmmm , BIOS says 'Core number 4' and Active Processor Cores All. Worried now...

Sorted, assume it must have been because I didn't reinstall windows, in msconfig/boot/advanced options it had 'No of processors' ticked and set to 2. I unticked 'No of processors' rebooted and voila all 4 cores now showing in coretemp, cpu-z etc. Phew :)

So you have been running on only 2 cores all this time LOL

Yep, and I thought it was fantastic before :o

Just running Prime95 on all 4 cores now, does seem to be a hell of a temp difference between cores, core0 peak 54C, core2 peak 62C. Wonder if the thermal paste hasn't spread evenly :(

Mine is the same Core 3 for me is the hotest. I checked my CPU contact and it's as good as can be... my H50 block is even lapped. I think, therefore it's normal to have a difference.
