2500k or 3570k

I was wondering this same thing the other day?

What is the opinion on the 3570K vs the 3770K is there any point considering all im going to be doing is gaming and its going to be plonked along side a gtx570?

Not really any point going for a 3770k over a 3570k for gaming, the 3770k will help out if you record gaming videos and edit them, but for purely gaming there will be no difference.

Ivybridge will show that 10% in games where you wish to push >120fps on a single card (medium settings for). Unfortunately few if any review sites focus on this. It's no surprise they show little difference when testing at ultra detail and 30fps.

Yeah as most have said about 10% performance increase. They do run hotter but at stock speeds that wont matter.

If you are a overclock i tend to see that 0.2GHz difference per clock. As in a 3770K at 4.6GHz will run at the same speed as a 2700K at 4.8GHz in some applications but will run at hotter temps. I've only tested this with those CPU's though and because in this case the 3770K runs hotter and is about £60 more than were i can find the cheapest for both CPU's i still think the Sandy Bridge is better in my case.

For yourself i'd say go with your gut, and your wallet.

I kinda set my sights on a 2500k as it seemed the most popular for cheapness and overclocking and power for gaming. Is this still the case or would the 3570k be a better choice, im upgrading from a q6600 @3.2 atm and was thinking of a upgrade for 250 quid which would be for 2nd hand stuff mainly for cpu 120 ish, 20 for cooler, 70 ish for a mb and 30 for some ram. What what would the best way to go for me be?

Hoping it would boost desktop stuff and gaming by about 25% at the minimum.

Would my 460 1gb card at 750/800 core (oc) be good enough to keep up with the new upgrade or would i need to look at a 560 ti tho spec wise im not far off it just minus some cude cores as when overclocked it nearly gets to 560ti speeds.

3570K would be the one I go for. It's the next Gen up so hopefully the bonces that come with it will see some good use. Its also clock for clock faster and you would have no problem with getting it to 4.5 Ghz

Also the latest 2500K's seem to be having issues with overclocking.
