my 2500k seems to need a lot of voltage to be able to get to anything above 4.2GHz, i put it up to 4.7GHz and had the voltage at 1.39 but it just bluescreened as soon as i ran prime95 :(

right now i have got it to 4.5Ghz at 1.36V, been running prime95 for about 10 minutes now and max temp is 76C

is this a safe temp? and any ideas why my cpu wont overclock as well as any of the other 2500k's i have seen?

***OVERCLOCKING GUIDELINES***

- Do not exceed 1.425v core voltage, doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Aim to keep temperatures below 70c underload if at all possible
- Do not overclock with BCLK, again doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher than 1.60v could limit lifespan of the CPU
- These recommendations come from OcUK and Intel, your warranty is un-affected but we highly recommend you adhere to the above to make sure your CPU lifespan is un-affected
- All Sandybridge CPU's worldwide should be run at the above or lower voltages, no higher! hope that helps looks like you need a better cooler

What blue screen error code did you receive when you were running the CPU at 4.7Ghz?

Also 76c is fine, I wouldn't personally be worried until you start hitting the 80c mark.

I'd say you might want to look into a slightly beefier cooler. Whilst the temperatures you are seeing aren't excessive, you might have more luck getting more stable overclocks at lower voltages if you can drop them down a bit.

The freezer 7 pro is a fine cooler - I've used them myself, they are much better than stock but they really don't compete with the bigger coolers such as the Noctua NH-D14, Phanteks or the Coolermaster TPC-800 (my one).

Also what's the difference across the cores? What other voltage settings are you using at the moment (PLL etc).

76.c is fine anything under 80.c is perfectly safe. Don't forget prime loads up the CPU considerably more than general use and gaming.

I run 1.36v and 4.8ghz and it has been fine for well over a year now. Max temp of around 75.c.

As others say, change your cooler, you could then get more out of the cpu.
I am currently running i5 2500k @ 4.8ghz with 1.385v although this does go up to 1.4v under load I assume because of max LLC setting, temps max @ 72% with prime. Your volts and temps are ok at your 4.5ghz, your cooler is yuk though and with better cooling you will get lower temps and possibly higher clocks.
