Putting together a whole new system. As I've been using a laptop for a few years and sold all my old hardware a while back before starting uni I have to get pretty much everything. This is to be mainly used for gaming, programming (games and simulations for uni) and general use. This is what I've come up with so far:

Intel i5-2500k 3.3GHz : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-360-IN

HIS ATI Radeon HD 6870 : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-040-HS

I've had some problems with ATI cards in the past (poor drivers and cooling) so I kind of wanted a GTX 560 but this seems like a good buy all the same.

ASRock Z68 PRO3 : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-052-AK

On the cheaper end of the Z68 boards but there doesn't seem to be much wrong with it apart from only 1 PCI-E x16 but I don't plan on using crossfire.

Corsair Vengeance Blue 2x2Gb : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-303-CS

OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-075-OC

I think I can manage with 60Gb for a while and I should have an old SATA drive kicking about somewhere.

Fractal Design Arc Midi : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-014-FD

Antec TruePower New Modular 650W : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN

Zalman CNPS10X-Quiet : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-044-ZA

Samsung B2230H 21.5" : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-135-SA

Need a new monitor so this is what I'm going with.

-----

Sub Total : £699.89
VAT : £143.80
Total : £862.79

Basically just above what I budgeted myself. What do people think, any howlers in there?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forums. Few things I'd change.

I'd go for the gigabyte z68xp-ud3 motherboard, £10 more expensive but has another pci-e x16 slot for expansion cards and will do xfire if you ever change your mind. reviewed here.

Go for low profile RAM so that the needless tall heatsinks don't interfere with the aftermarket cooler. Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2x2GB) and it's cheaper.

This CPU cooler, Gelid Tranquillo.

Crucial M4 SSD for reliability, although not sure if OCZ have sorted their issues out yet.

As above, 24" monitor is well worth it, especially when gaming.

This board is good as well:

One down from the one you mentioned. Not sure whats different, but it overclocks well.

I'd personally disagree about monitors They're the same resolution so you're not gaining anything just stretching the image out. Obviously there are other differences between screens but unless you sit far away personally I'd go for the smaller screen of a given resolution.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going with the Gigabyte board (was looking at that one before) and the Gelid cooler. Still pondering the Iiyama monitor.

Ignore that guff about "stretching out the image." The 24" will be far superior to the 21.5"
