Hi

Been offered a i7 2700K from a friend who's just changed to Haswell i7 4770K, its never been overclocked for £120 have a good clocking i5 2500K is it worth the upgrade? mainly used Gaming some video encoding and Benching.

Thanks

if your doing video encoding then yes - the hyperthreading feature will give you a healthy boost. Plus I would imagine most 2700K's can hit 4.6.... and you could probably sell that 2500k for £110 - not bad for a tenner outlay lol

Thanks guys wont be till middle of next week as he only just order all his new stuff so think I go for it:D

I found a bit of a jump moving from a 2500K to a 2600K - I have the same overclock as before (4.5ghz), it helps a lot if you can use the extra threads. I use them for virtual machines, it also helps with a few games, my programming work also has taken a small boost (compile time is often shorter).

For your uses, video encoding should take a boost, benches will likely score higher and also the overclocking will be fun as you've never used the chip before!

Made the same move myself some months and no regrets.:)

It cost me a bit more than £10-£20 though:(

At that cost - new cpu to play with, even just for the hell of it - why not :D

Well I now have the i7 2700K and Asus Maximus V Formula my m8 sold them to me for £190 loving the Mobo so many options in the bios :D
