2500k upgrade.

I've been running a 2600k for years because theres just no reason to upgrade. The older i7 and i5s overclock better as well. If you want a new i7 with the same build quality (soldered die etc) you have to pay 2x as much now :/

my i5 2500 k is in my pc in the loft which my wife uses so wanted to upgrade the cpu in my system in my living room and move my 780ti into that rig.I currently have a haswell mini itx board with one of the latest I3 processors.

I would move my pc from the loft but it wont fit in the cupboard i have in the living room.

So i suppose my question should have been is an new i5 good enough for gaming, what benefit would the i7 give over the i5

i7 has multithreading, which would help in multithreaded games and sli

you would see higher minimum frames per sec and higher fps

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I am also thinking of swapping my 2500K, currentley running at 4.4Ghz. Is it worth me swapping to a 2600, 2700k or a 3770k if the price was right. Main reason I was thinking about it, is because I have a 7990.
