Can I overclock 2500K without used the Turbo Boost technology on Gigabyte UD-5-B3 @3.7 GHz?

Thanks

If you CPU is a K series chip then it is a simple matter of raising the Mulitplier to overclock the CPU.

It matters very little with the SB cpu's if you have Turbo enabled or not. I disable Turbo before I overclock simply because I have no need for the turbo feature.

errr, im really confused now  :p

You do not need to get confused as it is very simple. That's why I choose the Gigabyte board so I could do manual overclocking like the previous generation motherboard (1156). So you do not have to use the turbo boost on a Gigabyte motherboard. I have got a 2500K which is a 3.3 overclocked to 3.7 manually without using the turbo boost and I could run all the 4 cores at the same speed. However, if I was using the turbo boost it would have picked up to 3.7 if the application required it. I have read on some forums Asus and MSI motherboards you have to use the turbo boost for overclocking.

If you refer to the link above regarding the overclocking without turbo boost, it will probably explain it a bit better.

I am sorry for confusing you. Mate I have overclocked and have benched my SB cpu at over 5.7GHz, so I feel I know what I am talking about when I speak of overclocking the CPU. All you do is raise the multiplier and if you wish you can also raise the BCLK. Of course you watch your temps as you increase voltages i very small amounts.

So this is how it goes.

Leave all voltages on auto.
Select your ram settings and leave them alone.
Keep raising your multi by one and booting into OS.
Once you are in OS have a look in CPU-z 1.57.2 or which ever is the latest CPU-z what your vcore is under auto.
Repeat until you can not boot into OS.
Now go into the bios and set your vcore one or two notches higher than the last successful boot into OS.
Reboot and see if you can get into OS.
If yes repeat until fail.
Once you get close to 5GHz you will need to enable PLL override.

Not all CPU's are equal so do not expect to have the golden CPU. I tested 11 CPU's to find one golden one.

Make sure you keep an eye on your temps. I test under a very good water set up and bench with a Single Stage.

I do not bother with Turbo settings or any of that stuff.

Hope that clears things up for you.
