my original hard drive in laptop is 232gb but i just got a replacement hard drive for the second hard drive bay and it is a 250gb samsung hard drive so it says on the hard drive but when its formatted its only 233gb like original hard drive .
where has the other 18gb gone to that should make it 250gb

Read this.
Hard drives "space" is calculated not in true binary form.

250,000,000,000/1,073,741,824 = 232.83064365386962890625

Windows rounds up thus you see 233GB

That is where your 18 GB gone, sorry hard drive companys love conning you to make their stats look better :D

This is nothing to do with being conned, it's Windows counting in different units and using SI notation for non SI units.

Chill out was just joking, everyone knows you dont get as much as they say.
Its just a standard to make peoples life easier. Binary is soo hard
