260 - 4870.. some different questions

Hi..

I'm looking to buy either the GTX260 (1gb) or the powercolor 4870 (1gb) but..

Which gets the hotest of the two when playing games.. and which is the loudest (idle and gaming)

This will ultimately make me decide which to go for as i think the performance is roughly the same. I am aiming to game at 1920x1600

GTX 260 is quieter when fan speed is same %age as the 4870, ulimately it stays cooler at lower speed. Owned both, although I had the 4870 512MB. Also, the GTX 260 is 896MB not 1GB, that's the GTX 280.

also if you dont fix the fan speed for the 4870 during gaming the fan will become noisy as the fan speed likes to jump up every so often

Is there a point in my upgrading from a 8800 GTS 512 to a 260GTX or 4870 1GB? Would it be a worthy upgrade?

Im looking to give my dad my old one and I get a new one. Just wondering how big of a jump it will be...?

I generally game at 1650 x 1200 is it? something like that

What games are you having trouble playing or what games are you intending on buying? If your GTS can handle what you play there's probably not much need until you need the performance. Especially with the current prices.
