just rma'd a 260 and now stumped as to what to get to replace it:confused: the 260 was nice but i was wondering if the 5770 is faster than it.
my mobo is sli but i dare say i'll be looking into new mobo in new year so not looking to sli now.
so is the ati faster than the nvidia ?

so the 57 is going to be a better card in couple weeks then, and uses less power.so looking to future it has to be ati at the moment ?

I concur, the 5770 is the way to go at the moment it seems. While it is true that they might be comparable in terms of power, surely then going for "old" tech is foolish.

For me dx11 tips the scales quite substantially, you are making the right call here mate. Furthermore, have you looked at some of the crossfire 5770 benchies ? Those things are a beast when combined, one now and perhaps another when prices drop sometime later on will get you through this gen for sure, and quite possibly through the next one as well if you're reasonable.

I was in the same situation and chose the 260 for several reasons:
Faster performance
Was much cheaper a month back when I purchased
Mature stable drivers
The 5770 wont be fast enough for true DX11 games. The difference between DX10 and DX11 is pretty small.
Usable Linux drivers (If I had purchased an ATI card I would have to purchase a 2nd Nvidia card like a 9400 for linux use).
The 3D glasses is really impressive.
I am researching PhysX support for the robotics simulator i'm using for my PhD.
Similarly, I'm researching the use of CUDA to improve some optimization procedures
Furthermore, me and a few colleagues are super excited about CUDA for research in swarm systems, systems biology, cellular automata, evolutionary robotics

lol @ not fast enught, the thing i heard is that AMD seeded developers with 5770 cards not 5800 cards, so Dirt 2 was tested and optimized for 5700 series
did you try DirectCompute and OpenCL?, they are out and works on ANY GPU

As pointed out the 260 is slightly faster and offers PhysX and 3D Vision support. However, with the 5770 you can always add a second one later and get decent performance in DX11 titles like DiRT2. There isn't much in it, though out of the two I'd probably go for the 5770. But don't rely on the promise of large performance improvements through drivers, as these things have a tendency to be over exaggerated.
