right, which one too choose...

X/VISION 512MB RADEON HD 2600PRO SUPER DDR2 - £40

or

JETWAY 256MB RADEON HD 2600PRO GDDR3 - £37

jetway looks like it has a cheapy fan, while the xv one looks better. but really it comes down to memory speed.

This is going into my pc for a month, so i can RMA my x1950 pro. also i can't find a 8800gt in the price range i would like it in at the moment. am i right in thinking that this card has about the same or slightly better preformance in games than a x1650 pro?

EDIT: there's also a 256mb ddr3 7600gt for £45, but sinse it will be in my computer for so little time is it wort it. it will then be going into my mum's computer to free up the memory that the intigrated graphics is using. mind you i will be completing crysis with whatever card i get.

EDIT: also it would be nice to play crysis with high textures and edge AA, will the ddr2 memory slow it down enough to make it not worth getting the 512mb version.
thanks

You aren't gonna play Crysis with high textures and AA on ANY 2600 Pro. As you are gonna be passing it on for your mum then I'd just go with the quietest card, maybe a passive 2400 XT instead. It doesn't really matter which of those 2 cards as neither is gonna play any modern games at decent settings (I know cos I have one in my primary PC). You'll be looking at 1024 x 768 @ high tops in anything recent.

ok, does anybody know the hole arangement for the 2600pro because i have a spare connect 3d 9550 passive heatsink, i could use that if it fitted alight. not that bothered about graphics too much as it is only for a month. i recently bought call of juarez and have not played it as it was glitching with my x1950 pro, shold i just play that and wait for the 8800gt for crysis?

I don't think you'd be getting the "crysis experience" that is for sure.

The 2600 Pros do run pretty cool but I wouldn't try the heatsink on a 9550 even if it fitted.

i think i'll get a powercolor 256mb ddr3 x1950gt that i found for £55 instead for over the winter, and i will sell it to my brother for a bit less for his new computer that i am building in january. i'll get my mum a cheapy passive dx10 (she has vista home premium) card to replace her onboard 6100.

thanks for your help.

oh, also how long will it be before dx9 and sm3 is old school in games, will it last for another year or so anyway before dx10 and sm4 become the minimum reqirements?

Wait one sec while I get my crystall ball :D

No-one can tell you that but think of this: many "hardcore" gamers still have DX9 graphics cards and it is unlikely any game developers will only want to target their game at them, so what realistically are the chances they'll cripple the potential market by switching to DX10 only? :) (It won't happen soon)

Probably getting decent graphics performance already for Aero desktop, you don't need DX10 to run it.

They will run Crysis at Slideshow speeds my friend. Your pocket is going to have to be a lot deeper than £40 for Crysis to be playable.

x1950gt it is then :)

as you said i don't really need a new card for my mum's computer (acer t180), i suppose it's slow because it only has 768mb of RAM, time for another gig i guess.

Even an X1950GT wont be playing crysis well. I see you have a 22" monitor, it will be a slideshow at the monitors native res.
