Looking to ramp up my newly installed 2600k

Is it really just as simple as multi to 40 something and a bit more v core

Running is on a gigabyte z68 ap-d3 mobo btw with if the posty brings it tommorow 8 gig of 1600mhz hyper x 2x4 gig

Currently on the stock cooler as well btw so I'm expecting a somewhat limited overclock what u think guys (going h100) when I eventually pick up a new case

Be very careful overclocking on the stock cooler, temps can shoot up rapidly.

But yes overclocking is pretty much that simple on sandybridge, raise the multi and adjust voltage to your needs, other settings may need to be adjusted depending on how high you want to take it, but their may be motherboard specific options, so have a dig about for a guide relevant to your bios.

Try adjusting the turbo multiplier to 40 and setting the vcore to 1.20v.

Only a 200mhz overclock so the stock cooler should be able to handle that.

If you want anymore out of it I suggest getting an aftermarket cooler. Hope this helps. :-)

take i've got a poor chip then? my stock vcore is 1.236
Ignore it.

Set the multi to 40, take note of the vcore and check your temps to make sure they're well under 80C. Go to bios and set the vcore to one notch under the auto number you noted and keep lowering it like that until it wont post or BSODs while loading into windows. When it does that up the vcore to the last value you got into windows with and check for stability, increase by one notch if not stable.. do again until is.

When your cooler comes you'll need to do a bit more than that to get a decent OC.

Personally I wouldn't bother until your H100 turns up as the stock intel HSF is absolutely crap for overclocking. With the i5 2500k I own, I tried hitting 4ghz with the stock HSF before I bought my H60 and it was hitting 85C with it with really low vcores :S
