Hi there quick question how much better is the 3600 over the 2600x

Price 3600 £180
Price 2600x £118

Pairing it with b450 board unsure what one yet witch is best looking at tomahawk msi

With 16gb 3200 ram
I game at 1440p atm 60hz

Thinking of going 1080p 144hz with the new aoc monitor for £180 ips one as it's cheaper than the 1440p 144hz and needs less grunt

Gpu would be 5700 or 5700x

Trying to get best bang for buck more the save the better

games I play are rust cs go and wow

Thanks for your help I'll be waiting for black Friday

If you can afford it i would go for the 3600 one of the best buys of this generation in cpus for gaming and productivity. The IPC is better and newer architecture natively supports 3200mhz with the idea that you can use 3600mhz easy, while the 2600 i think struggles above 3200 unless you get b.die

Definitely the 3600, absolute bargain with as apostoliskt says, much better memory support.

Unless you have a specific use case for the 2000 series or are desperate to save the cash, that's where I'd put my money.

3600 at £180 is well worth it. Pair with the 5700XT but research the brand. Ask in the Navi owners club. I own a reference 5700 and XT and i have no heat issues with both, so long as a reasonably cool room temp is maintained. Undervolting works easy and well with these navis.

3600 is incredible. Its pretty much on par with the 2700x, and in quite a few cases actually performs better

Get the 3600 and a 3000 series ready motherboard, or one that can update bios without a CPU on Black Friday and enjoy some nice gaming :)

It'll be faster than a 2700x IPC wise. Anything that uses 8 cores vs 6 then maybe slightly equal.

Exactly, the increase in IPC actually makes it on par with an 8 core from the previous gen for most tasks

Been researching this for the last few months as an upgrade from my 1700 and pretty much the 3600 comes out top everywhere I look and this is even taking into the cost saving of the older CPU.

If it's of any use I own a stock clocked 2600x paired with a Vega 56 and game at 1440p it's rare a game drops below 60fps with a mix of high and medium settings

It doesn't seem to be worth changing at the moment

Depends what you use it for - mine is primarily for VR with Rift S in Elite Dangerous...

I had exactly yours - 2600X and Vega 56 Pulse, but I've already swapped the Pulse for a 5700XT Nitro+ and the 3600 ought to be a brilliant match for that

Yeah, what I mean though is, game wise not many use 8 cores, so a 6 core 3600 would always be the better choice, the IPC improvements mean that core for core the performance would be better when both are running say at single or six core and 8 core loads the IPC probably offsets the 2 core gain on the 2700x

Thats true as well, though I think after the next gen consoles are released game developers would start to use all 8 cores so in a few years time 8 cores would be ideal for gaming
