260M vs 3870, comparison?

Hi folks,

I have just ordered a laptop as I will be abroad for 3-4 months.

It comes with the 1GB Geforce GTX 260M gpu, which I understand is not as powerful as its desktop equivalent, but how would it compare to my desktops 512Mb 3870?
CPU and RAM are pretty much the same in both, as is screen resolution (1680 x 1050).

Also, any idea on AA performance with this GPU? I find the 3870s AA performance pretty poor...

I remember someone saying the 260m has the sameish specs as a standard 9800gt/gtx???

They're basically just G92 GPUs. Performance wise they're somewhere between 8800GT/9800GT/GTS250 (all the same card).

Yet another shameful re-brand of G92.

g92 architecture with 96 SPs and a 128bit memory interface. AA performance will not be very good, but without AA it should be comparable to a 3850 or so in many situations.

The 128bit mem interface is what will really hold it back at that resolution

I was hoping not to take a hit in performance from what I get in my desktop, as I find the 3870 can struggle with some of the titles I like to play.

If it's a 260M GTX it has 112 SP, 256bit DDR3 memory and is almost as fast as the 250GTS desktop part.
