Just got the strix 1070ti so I'm looking to upgrade my dell 2408wfp.

Shortlisted the Acer XB271HU IPS, Samsung C27HG70 VA and Asus MG279Q IPS. All 144hz 1440 27"

Acer offers gsync at a small bump over the Asus. I play a pretty broad spectrum of relatively non-competitive games. I quite like my 120hz glossy asus, but don't want a TN and almost exclusively use the 60hz dell. Ignoring price as a factor, which one to go for?

Asus and Aver is IPS
Samsung 27" is VA

I went for the Samsung due to IPS bleed concerns. Samsung isn't perfectly even all over but apparently it's a lot better than IPS.
I've read about 'smearing' 'ghosting' 'crush' etc. Have you noticed much of that? What do you play? My dell is S-PVA, has virtually no discernable back light in pitch black and has been great. I feel as though going up to 1440@144hz will just improve my experience?

previous monitor was 5/6ms TN 60hz. Can't see any trailing on this 27" VA. Not sure what black crush is. Play various games, seems good overall

But if you mean this, then I can see all 4 x 5 boxes, and all are different.

The acer is a great monitor and at a good price if you shop around and can be had for less than the Samsung.

Gsync is a recommended feature going forward in my honest opinion.

I have the Samsung C27HG70 paired with a 1080Ti, which is overkill for 16:9 1440P.
I have not noticed any VA 'smearing' or 'black crush', but that may just be my perception of an image on a monitor. I do see back-light bleed with this VA, but it does not bother me at all. I now think the infamous IPS glow might not have been an issue for me!
I believe Davanuius view about the Acer is correct as Gsync will be a great match with the 1070Ti.
I bought my Samsung last October, but if I had seen the Acer XB271HU at the price it is at now, I would have bought that instead.

I'm seeing them both at around the same price - OCuk has the samsung at 550. I'm curious as to why you'd opt for the Acer - purely due to gsync? I'd have thought the samsung is likely to have better image quality and less likely you'll receive a dud?

I find that the ips offers better viewing angles than the va in the Samsungs and the Samsung may look a little oversaturated to some with a reddish look to it.

Gsync is a bonus really and once you get used to it, it would be very hard to go without it. Also you may get more time out of your 1070ti with the adaptive sync tech before needing an upgrade as you will get a smoother experience.

Both monitors are very nice though and better than tn in looks but not in motion clarity.

Make sure to buy from a shop with good returns policies.

You may also want to wait for the LG 32GK850G which so far has high opinions and is due here very soon. I am looking forward to it and will likely purchase one.

I don't think I want a 32". I'm more likely to get a super premium monitor at some point in the next 18 months along with a high volta. Yeah the acer seems to be less reliable (more returns) than the samsung. Any opinion on how well the acer manages dark scenes?

The Samsung will be better for dark scenes as it's a va. The Acer did have a high return rate at one point but I don't know how things stand at the moment.

Whatever you go for you can always return it. I wish the Samsung had a Gsync version as that is what I would have in a heart beat.

So the samsung is the better screen generally, but Gsync is the dealmaker for the acer? Interesting, the difference is that big? I'm coming from a 60hz 24 ips/120hz tn both >8years old so I'm hoping for a big impact.

I didn't say better generally just better for dark scenes. Both have their pro's and con's.

I happen to like va panels very much but ips is considered better by some.
G-sync is not the deal maker for the Acer, being a fast ips is imo. Gsync is the icing on the cake.
If you had an AMD card I would have said go for the Samsung with the bonus being Freesync.
As I said both monitors are very good.

Do some more research on both before committing and return if you are not satisfied with either.
