Hi All. I'm after a new 27" 1440P to replace and old 24" 1080P, primarily used for gaming. I was just wondering if there are any go to recommendations in this area at the moment, maybe up to about £500?

I've seen a decent offer on a Dell S2721DGFA (around £250) and as far as I can tell that seems like a solid choice, but happy to pay more if there is good reason.

I did wonder about waiting for some OLEDs and splashing out on one, but I guess they are going to be very pricey for now, so maybe if I get something reasonably priced I won't mind upgrading again in a couple of years.

You might like to watch this, if you haven't, it is two years old though (Interwebs seems to think they're the same model with minor updates).

Thanks for that, I'm never really sure where to look for decent reviews. Very tempted to grab this, its may not be perfect but for the money seems great.

With contrast blast from 15+ years past it should be cheap.
850:1 is max I've seen for those 27" 2560x1440 Nano-IPS panels and ~800:1 is typical.
So those panels are big no for any dimmer room illumination.
IPS is simply never good for low illumination environment (at least without local dimming) but those are even worse.

At the same time AU Optronics panels push toward 1200:1, which while not great in grand scheme, is always improvement to weak spot spot of IPS.
Also AUO has tuly wide gamut panels covering both AdobeRGB and DCI-P3.
That gives better extension into greens (foliage/vegetation) and cyan (sky/water) colours/shades if you like vibrant colours for contrast to what ever grey weather you have outside...

As for OLED would be wary about durability when they try to shink the pixel size.
I mean LG's hyped 27" has only 130 nits full screen brightness in HDR mode.
That means LG is very nervous about image burn in, or really burn out of pixels.
Otherwise they wouldn't have ABL limit brightness that low.

Unfortunately OLED is still far from what was hyped already dozen years ago.

Got one, great for the money..........

I have the 280 hz alienware monitor, and I'm happy with it, but tbh I think I wish I had saved for a month and got the oled. I still might do that

I like my txt to look crisp (pixel layout /true type) and a bit cheaper so going to wait for the tech to mature.

This channel is good for monitors:

I'm after one myself and eyeing up the Gigabyte M27Q X or MSI MAG274QRF-QD , but waiting for a price drop first

Thanks for the video. I'd been looking at what other options were available and that MSI had stood out. Still half tempted with the cheap Dell, but might hang on for a deal on that MSI or the Gigabyte you've suggested.
