I'm thinking of a monitor upgrade, current monitor is this:

Are either of the following a decent upgrade on the above?

I'm not very good at interpreting spec numbers into real world performance so I'm not sure what to expect from either, it's for all round use so films/tv series/browsing/gaming.

I don't do competitive FPS gaming so no CS or BF type games, would have liked G-sync ideally but they're way out of my price range.

The Samsung is currently £299 elsewhere though so that's a good chunk of change left over compared to the Dell, although I do love my current Dell and been nothing but 100% happy with it.

The Samsung is good as well but I struggle to see how much it will be worth compared to your current one. I think you should either save up more and really go for it, or look for at least much larger size, e.g. you can find Benq BL3200PT for the lower end of £300 (I have it & it's fantastic!).

I hear you, and I think if the monitor was out there I'd probably justify the outlay but I don't really think there is much choice 1440p IPS G-sync at poresent??

I'm also concerned that anything over 27" is too big really.

For what it's worth I have the Samsung and like it a lot. Brilliant all round monitor, great colours and no bleed on my unit anyway.

I don't understand how it can be marketed as a gaming monitor however, it does have a "Game" mode but it is rubbish, much better to just leave it as is.
Im not saying for one second that this isn't suitable for gaming, I use it for gaming and I love it, but it has neither a 1ms TN panel or >60z refresh rate so calling it a gaming monitor seems a bit far fetched.

On the flip side I also briefly owned a BenQ 32 and had to return it after a week, it was just too big for me - my own personal experience. Found myself craning my neck far too much to see the extremities of the display, something to consider perhaps.

The Samsung just represents excellent value for money, always has done. I bought mine around a year ago for nearly the same price,

One thing to consider is that the Samsung has a grotesquely large stand so it's just as well I was planning on wall mounting it. So make sure you have a good deep desk for the stand.
