I'm currently weighing up a 34" curved ultrawide, but my second choice would be a 27" 16:9 screen @ 1440p.

I don't really want Freesync or Gsync (as the price increase would put it directly in line with the curved ultrawide). So I'm looking for suggestions of 1440p screens under the £300 mark.

Needs to have VESA support, and either PVA or IPS. Any suggestions?

Thing is, 27'' 1440p IPS/VA is just barely 300 or a bit over. But you can get an ultra-wide (29'' or 34'') for a bit over 300 that also has freesync (the LG ones).

I know you don't want it, but I strongly suggest getting freesync / gysnc. That's a more important feature for me than 1440p over 1080p. Infact, after returning a 1440p 144hz freesync monitor and (temporarily) going back to a 32" 1080p tv, freesync is the only thing I'm really missing!

This is my thinking - if I could get a decent 27" screen for around £300, it might sway me from the ultrawides as it's half the price. But for £4-500 I'd rather pickup an ultrawide for a bit more.

Again as per above, by the time I'm paying for a Gsync screen - I'd much rather pay a bit more and get an ultrawide.

Thing is, you can have both ultra-wide & freesync for quite cheap. In any case, F/G-sync are worth way more than ultra-wide, in any gaming experience.

I agree with Poneros. Freesync/Gsync are fantastic techs.

I'm not saying otherwise, but it's not that valuable to me given the extra cost (G sync is the only option as I have a 970) as I spend more time doing other stuff than I do gaming. At ~£500 I'd get much more benefit to me going 34" 21:9 than I would sticking with 27".

BenQ GW2765HT @ Amazon for £275

Freesync is just VESA Activesync really. So most monitors with displayport 1.2a will have a "Freesync" logo on it. I don't think it adds much to the cost. Not like G-sync which adds £100+

Id probably just get a Korean screen off the auction site. Ive had mine for 3 years now and its been awesome.
