Evening all :)

I'm in the market for a new cheap monitor to hook my ageing PC and PS4 up to. The PC isn't up to much, mostly used for media consumption now, and I'm not gonna pretend it's likely to see an upgrade anytime soon. The monitors primary function is going to be for the PS4, so given that, no point going over 1920x1080.

Given budget and function, I'd decided that a TN panel would be the way to go, as low response time would be the priority, and being sat at a desk, viewing angles aren't an issue.

I'd been looking at the below...

BenQ RL2755HM

LG 24GM77

...and cannot decide.

I like the idea of a larger screen (coming from 24"), but not sure if the lower PPI might bother me.

On the other hand, I could only take adavantage of the higher refresh rate of the LG when using the PC, and given I'm only using that for web, video, etc, I'm not sure if it would be worth it.

Of course, any other suggestions I am open to, although I do need at least 1 x analogue, 1 x DVI-D, and 1 x HDMI inputs.

I'm gonna be buying next week, budget is around the £200 mark.

Cheers

144hz, no question, have the LG as well and it's great, can't go back to 60hz, even for desktop it makes a difference for me as you notice the response more smooth.

I borrowed a 120HZ screen, and ended up not bothering.

IMO, unless a competitor gamer it's just not worth the cash. Unless of course you have the cash to throw at it. I went 1440P 27" instead. PS4 being the main use, the real estate is the better choice.

Cheers for the replies fellas, seems to confirm my thoughts. Think i'm leaning towards the BenQ right now, but tomorrow is another day lol

I got a Iiyama XB2783HSU recently and I can say with no reservation that it is amazing and that I have not noticed the lower PPI at all. I was actually also considering a 144hz monitor, that LG in particular, but in the end went with this because the extra size is better in more games, for movies, everything basically. Even did some portrait-style gaming in Devil may Cry earlier and it was just unbelievable, I almost want to get 2 more and set them up like that but the bezels are too wide. Plus I also overclocked it a bit so it's actually 66hz, so not too shabby but far from 144 ofc. But then again, will you really keep >100fps reliably, especially in new games with settings turned up? Doubt it, it's gonna take at least a 295x2 and even then...

Overall, unless you spend 90% of your time in CSGO, I'd go for the 27''.

If it's primarily used for the PS4 then I'd say the larger screen with lower refresh rate. You're not going to be taking advantage of the 144hz often enough to warrant it being a worthy purchase over the real estate of the 27"
