Argh! I can't make my mind up!

After my experience with the iPhone I'm finally ready to make the move over to apple but I just cannot make my mind up what to go for.

Traditionally, I am a desktop person and was originally favouring the 27" iMac for its sheer size if not anything else. I currently have a mid-end desktop now and a mid-end laptop, and my laptop rarely gets any use, partly because its just not nice to use, sluggish, and the screen is crappy looking.

The MBP's look like a really good quality product and I can't decide if its versatility would make it the better option. I mean, I don't NEED the portability, its just a nice luxury to have.

Its the downsize in screen real estate more than anything thats currently putting me off.

Anyone have any opinions, or went through a similar decision themselves?

I have a MBP and would recommend you get either the 24" imac and a netop for mobility web browsing etc (you can even remote login to your imac if you need to set something going which is more demanding).

The MBP is good, but unless you need the mobility. You get more powerful hardware in the imac's currently than the MBP which would swing it for me.

If you are only going to use it for basic productivity and browsing then tough call really as both will do the job equally well. I do often find myself using my MBP with my TV though so I have bigger screen.

Look's like you've all persuaded me. Just need to make the decision whether the i5 is worth the premium or not.

Can't afford both Skully :p

Mac Mini then get a cheap decent screen - with out an apple on it

The 27" iMac comes with a fantastic screen, the overall package is incredibly good value. It would be nothing but stupidity to get a Mini and a different monitor instead.

I'm not sure I'd agree - surely you'd have to get a 2560x1440 30" monitor to go bigger, and that will set you back £1k+ already. Now get the Mac Mini, keyboard, mouse etc and it all adds up.

I think the base 27" iMac is pretty good value for money. I've got both a 24" iMac and a 15" MBP (+26" monitor), but still prefer the iMac. :)

Well I was considering you would maybe get a refurb 24" from apple and then money left over for a netop. Not sure if this would be something your interested in or not to be honest, but is an option (possibly could mean you get imac and a macbook).

But for the no hassle choice go imac!

Cheaper and you could get a bigger screen for the price difference

Not with the same hardware spec and included peripherals.

I mean you try and find me a mac mini with that hardware and a 27" IPS screen at that resolution + peripherals for the same price and ill eat my hat.

The people in here (Feek who happens also to be a don) know the pricing structure inside out and what is the best deal etc.

Also are you going to start a new thread in GD every time someone posts a counter opinion to yours on one of the forums?

Both!

I just recently got a 21.5" iMac and a base model 13" MBP, I bought both in duty free so got both for not a lot more than a 27" iMac alone - best purchases ever!!

Before that I had a late 2008 15" MBP, iMac is loads faster than it and much more useful to me as the MBP spent most of it's time at home on the desk anyway. The 13" MBP is also a very nice size to carry about when I need it.
