What sort of gearbox is he using, I though aeroplanes ran at very low rpm?

I took this a few hours ago. 24 litre Napier Bentley @ Silverstone
I 'think' he had a problem with his tyre... a lap or so after this it went pop! Right near to where I was standing. I have some good sequences of him as he comes out of a corner with more and more smoke coming off the tyre as he puts his foot down!
Its such an amazing machine - when it comes into a corner the backfires are so frequent, they almost make a continuous noise - kinda like a machine gun even! I cant believe he races the thing so much!

I assume its the same car, must be a bit of a rarity. When I saw it it had exhast pipes on (three of them, one on this side and two on the other). Its awesome that the cars still getting so much use, its amazing to see/hear/feel cars like that.
RE: silverstone... Just been checking the calendar, these events (i.e. the non-race events) can anyone go down to watch, is it the same as the F1 testing (if you've been?).
They are still race events mate. They tend to cost £10 to get in, and you can get anywhere on the circuit/paddock. Its much better than F1 testing for access.lineaR said:
