My old 24" Dell IPS display has started getting weird dead pixel effects from time to time so I think it's time to relegate it to a secondary display and get a nice new primary display monitor, a lot of the graphics designers at work use 26-27" monitors and I've been kind of taken in by them. :D

I do a fair bit of photographic work, so IPS is kind of a must, and I think that 1080p is about acceptable on the 24" display but would not be enough on a 27" display for me, while at the same time I game so would probably find 4k would decimate my framerate, so the 2560x1440 seems like a good res for me. No budget in particular really, I'm willing to spend what's needed.

Are there any particular favourites or is sticking with Dell again a good choice?

Don't get 4K yet. Your GPU is also a bit weak for AAA gaming at 1440p with bells and whistles. Do you plan to change it in the near future? If you want frame syncing technology your choice (gaming wise) depends on whether you own an AMD or nVidia card.

The superwide boys will be in here soon to recommend a 34 incher for you, which might be a decent option for gaming and productivity but will stretch your GPU too far.

Yeah I don't expect to be able to game at max settings, I can't get 60fps on max settings on some games like fallout 4 @ 1080p as it is (granted the game engine is crap). Anything bigger than 27" is just too big to fit on my desk and would not fit in my field of view anyway. :p

For frame syncing technology I might as well get something nvidia compatible if I go for that as I don't feel like changing my card any time soon.
