27" Monitor

What are the recommendations for a 27" monitor, cost effective for Lightroom post processing?

TIA

I have the Dell U2713HM and it's excellent out of the box and even better once calibrated.

I'd recommend buying a 16x10 instead of a 16x9 ratio screen.
More screen space for editing and viewing your portfolio online (less resizing needed).

30" monitors are about 2-3x the price of a good 27" monitor though. (30" are the 16x10 version of 27" monitors 2560x1600 vs 2560x1440). Personally I don't see the benefit of the extra cost, having 2 30" monitors at work and a 27" at home.

The Dell is a great monitor, I use one at home. Whichever one you get make sure you get one with a resolution of 2560x1440 not the 1080p ones. If you want the latter then get a 24" 16x10 monitor instead.

At 2560x1440 (U2713HM) there's not really much concern for lack of screen space.

The H is wide gamut. I suggest reading up on the differences between wide and standard gamut because it is likely you won't be needing wide gamut and thus paying extra for features that won't be utilised. The H does have some additional features like backlight control for bleed as well. My HM didn't have any bleed issues though. Some other people did have some with various levels of bleed.

The wide gamut also looks weird on apps that don't support colour profiling, most notably web browsers and media players so if you use that screen for movies and web surfing you will most likely encounter odd looking colours on websites and in movies due to this. Something worth considering!

I tried two HM's in the end. One was faulty with weird scrolling artefacts + image retention, the other had horrible backlighting (yellow very visible in the left corner).

I'm now on a new pursuit to find another 27" alternative...

Got an Asus 27 today, looking good so far, good blacks. Need to check the bleed later in when it gets dark but nothing as noticeable as the Dells.

Interesting you mentioned image retention.
This is apparently an effect that occurs on some IPS panels and is 'normal'.
It happened with some iMacs at work and was the first time I had across it. However since then I have avtually noticed it does occur on my own IPS LG panel too.

Regards 10bit displays, am I right in thinking you need a compatible graphics vard for these to work correctly?

Dell told me it's normal too. Interesting that the second one didn't have the problem - I asked them if this one was defective as it didn't exhibit the "normal" problem!
