Ive just been lucky enough to receive a windfall in the form of a glorious tax return, I am now wanting to upgrade my monitor (currently a 24" sammy).

I want to upgrade because I feel the sammy is big, not huge and not something I would watch a movie on for example. I was wondering are the 27" tft's "big enough" to watch movies on? Do you get the cinema feeling with one, or do I need to get a 32" hdtv to get that?

My main use will be for games though, will a 27" tft or 32" tv better serve my needs? I will be aquiring a xbox 360, so I would like the most suitable screen for this.

I have also considered aquiring a second 24", but my desk is rather small, and no room to upgrade it.

The 27" tft's I was looking at were the Hanns.G HZ281HPB and Iiyama ProLite B2712HDS both on overclockers.

I havent looked at any 32" tv's yet, but I will just get the cheapest that does 1920x1080 and has a hdmi port.

Thanks guys

Honestly, I would consider a separate TV for movies etc, and stick with a dedicated screen for the PC.

A 27" TFT is not a massive increase in size over a 24"; certainly not enough to make a massive impact on film-watching. But on the other hand, if you go for a 32" HDTV you are unlikely to get the same quality in the features that make a big difference on the PC (response time, input lag etc).

You can get great deals on relatively large TVs, which will be great for films but less suited to PC use.

Not sure about that. Just bought a Samsung 27" P2770H, and in comparison to my parents' 23" LG, the increase in real estate for both computing use and media use is certainly worth it in my eyes. However it will cost you about £80 more.

I too thought about a 32" TV before purchasing my 27". But I decided that for computing use a 32" with 1080p would just not look right (pixels too thick). However for media and games, it would probably be better (though input lag for games may be an issue depending on the model).

Only thing I would say is that as much as I like my new 27", it is a TN panel, so the vertical viewing angles aren't great - so viewing media at a distance and slightly off-centre might produce some colour distortion. Worth bearing in mind.

I've decided to go with the iiyama 27 incher, I want something that will cover all bases and as my main use is pc, I think this will be a good compromise.

Also height adjust is a boon!
