I'm looking at buying a gfx card for gaming, I'll mostly be playing at 1680x1050. I don't have a massive budget and am looking at the ati r9 270 series but am unsure how much difference there is between the 270 and 270x models. Is the 270x worth the small price difference?

Thanks

7850 = R9 270
7870 = R9 270X
if your issue is money, i would find a radeon HD 7870, they are the same cards rebranded like 2013 edition with the name R9 270X.
exemple in france R9 270X cost around 180€, the regular 7870 between 100-120€
R9 270 cost 150€ , 7850 around 80-100€
so try to find a retailer with 7870, they are most likely on promotion to finish the stock, grab one and you get same perf for a lot less, at some point here we had 7870 for 90€ makes crossfire for the price of single 270X.
and about your question the 30€ difference is worth it go for the X, and btw they are still GCN1.0 architecture all Mantle compatible, if thats one of the reasons you opted for AMD

thanks for the advice guys. I wasn't sure why the 270x was a little more expensive. I wouldn't mind a 7870 if I could find one for cheap but most seem to be a similar price to these newer cards.

well i live in france, so we might not have the same prices xD, but hoping it would be the same for you too, who knows

o.O are you sure ? 270X 2Go, 7950 3Go
i know that the 280 is the 7950, and the 280X is the 7970 Ghz edition

Near enough, yes. There's fractions between the 270X, 280 & 7950. The former is simply clocked to equal stock speeds, but of course the other two, the 280 / 7950, can be pushed further still. The 270 equals a 7870, not a 7850. :)

and ppl who complained about AMD rebranding xD, they still boosted quiet a bit, but you can still achieve almost the same if you just buy the older version instead of the rebranded and OC yourself
im guessing the 270X is the 7870XT the boosted version like for 7970 Ghz edition for the 280X
