Need CPU, Board and Memory, have a Ryzen 56 and game at 1920 and occasionally 2560 (2 monitors), got the evolv X on pre order

I can't be bothered with hard core over clocking and don't want a system that's sounds like a jet engine.

Looking at the 2700x bundle with 16gb of ram, couple of questions

1. Is the extra cost of the 8 pack ram worth it in my case
2. Bar the gfx card would I then be good to go for the next 2-3 years
3. Is the stock cooler good enough with mild over clocking ( say 4ghz)

Cheers

1. Possibly, Ryzen likes the RAM as fast as you can get it, sweet spot 3200 and the 8 pack ram is good stuff.
2. Yes
3. Generally goes at those speeds at stock anyway so yes

Re 1. hope you don't mind me piping in.

I know b-die samsung is the one to get, but are 3200mhz 8pack £70 better than 3200mhz ram that appears on a mobo's QVL?

Especially for people like the OP who aren't heavily overclocking?

2. Yes
3. From what i've been reading the stock coolers are good for, well, stock running.

Personally though any overclocking and i'd probably be looking at a new cooler.

Thanks for chipping in, that's exactly where I am coming from, £70 is worth it if the other stuff isn't stable, the difference between the ram would equate to about 1-3 FPS, I'm 50, my brain won't notice

I know the timings would make a small amount of difference (but likewise, not £70 worth to me) but if the cheaper RAM is specifically listed at that speed on the QVL it should be ok I would think.

Mind you they are technically classed as overclocks and so not guaranteed, presumably this is why 8 pack is recommended as it's more likely to hit its speed.

That said, some of the 8 pack kits aren't specifically listed on some mobos QVLs that i've looked at so that leaves me still asking which would be more likely to hit its speed :)

Look at it this way, if the non 8 pack 3000/3200mhz kits weren't stable then they wouldn't be offered in that bundle. I think that the 8 pack kit is offered due to it being able to be tweaked much more than the other kit's. If you like to spend hours messing around with ram timings, voltage and speed then go for the 8 pack kit. If you want to just fit it, set the XMP and leave it be get the standard kits. Personally I would probably go with the TeamGroup Dark T-Force 3200mhz kit. Memory is expensive enough as it is without buying even more expensive stuff and spend hours trying to get the most out of it.

i tend to quote 3000hz kit as that should easily be slot and enable , 8 pack kit fun if you want to play with Ryzen Calculator and hit 3600+ , 3400hz should be achievable with the ram by changing speed and leaving timings . but you pay for that privileged - can the extra £60+ give extra storage , cooling to match that pretty case, can land you almost two packs of Silent wing 3's which are buy 3 for price of 2 etc

or keep sound down with the Vega , temps and allow high overclock

Cheers chaps, non 8 pack save 60 and maybe get an aio
( they look pretty :) )

Any suggestions, £100 tops ideally

I got the bundle and I've gone from the stock cooler to the thermalright aro-m14 (closely rated with the d15 in good tests). Not seen much difference and I've got good intakes, about 6C less after an hours gaming etc. Not huge, and not as large as I was expecting. it's a hell of a lot quieter though.

I suspect if I pushed an overclock, that is where it actually shine, but I'm not planning on doing that yet.

What I'm basically saying is the stock cooler is actually impressively good.

If your case doesn't have good intake fans, I'd look at improving them first, since good intake will help an AIO too.
