If I'd known that chip would do 4.8GHz then I wouldn't have sold it lolI'm seeing this in Hardware Monitor... can't be right can it? 2700X can't go that high?

Whoever makes coretemp needs to get the finger out and make it properly ryzen compatible. It always reports some insane max temp for some reason and has done for over a year now. You'd think by now they would have fixed whatever bug is responsible for this.
Coretemp was never written for AMD cpu's in the first place, it was always intended to work with Intel. In fact it works that well with Intel that when i had X58 975's and 990's under phase it would read the negative temps fairly accurately.
No harm in them getting it to work properly with it. They still update the program so i don't see why its still bugged.
Have you tried an updated version of Core Temp?, current version is 1.12.1.
Quite a few changes for AMD CPU's in the last two versions.
