Gents,

Currently running two r9 270x Windforce editions, one of which is 2gb v-ram and the other is 4gb.

I'm looking at a r9 290 in terms of pricing (270-300 quid), will a single 290 provide much more of an upgrade or should I just stick with my current setup?

Just upgraded to a 1440p monitor so this will have to be taken into account.

Cheers

In games that support CF they will perform the same (roughly) but the r9 290 would destroy your current setup in games that don't support cf

If you are looking to upgrade, here are some choices:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-00-40G) £283.99
1 x XFX Radeon R9 290 DD Black Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (R9-290A-EDBD) £269.99
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £269.99
Total : £833.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

However, the 270s scale very well in SLi and as a single card solution, the 290 wil obviously be quicker, I think you're going to be better off with 2x270x's.

That would be more of a side grade, however he can then add a second 290 at a later date and still get good scaling

Just leave it for now, you have the cards, don't hassle yourself. When you feel you need moar, flog those, grab yourself a couple of 290s for what will be dirt cheap :)

cf 270x is 290x territory and generally the games that don't support cf are older and don't really need it.

You're losing 2gb vram though with the set up, it's not ideal.
