I've been looking around for a decent gfx card, but I've just found out that my xc-cube only has a 275W PSU. Can I run a X800XL or X1600XT with this PSU? If not, what are my options?

Thanks, Dango

I had a SFF PC, an Aopen XC-Cube as it happens although I only put a 9700pro AIW in it as that was about all I needed at the time.

The manufacturers website will normally tell you the required PSU however they tend to over-estimate what is required and SFF PSUs are normally a lot more capable than a simple look at the wattage would suggest.

I have an XC Cube EZ65-II with the same PSU. Very capable PSU, and both cards would work fine.

Could you confirm the model number of the power supply? I have built a huge range of XC cube based small form factors, off the top of my head i think the supply is a fsp275-60cu and i have used these with a 3.4ghz p4 prescott, 2gb ram, and a 256mb Geforce 7800GT, no stability or heat issues at all, the cooling worked very well and the graphics card ran cooler than it did in my well cooled lian li tower because it was so close to the side vents. So on that basis i would expect a 7900 series card to work without any problems as these are even cooler and draw less power than the 7800 series.

To answer your question - a x800 card would be no problem for this system as long as it phsyically fits (eg no large aftermarket coolers).

Cheers for the responses guys. I'm now confident enough to go for it. I've plummed for the x1600xt, with the wapping HIS ICEQ cooler on the side. Going to copy Going to Cali's case work and mod the side of my case.
I'll post some pics, but don't hold your breath...
