I've noticed over the years of playing the Gran Turismo games that most of the skylines, evos, sti/wtx's supra's and the like all have 276hp. Is this a game balancing thing or are some Japanese cars limited to 276HP like the Germans limiting their cars to 155mph?

Ah I've now found JDM on wikipedia and know what it means finally! So yeah only domestic cars were limited... Seems strange that you could buy a skyline or supra that could only do 118mph...

Oh right... Were the European versions limited to 276hp? I thought UK specification evos and sti's were nudging 400hp over the past 10 years...

The Imprezas that were sold over here were only ever 280ps but there was a 'dealer fit' tuning pack which took them over 300 that got around emission laws. As for evo's they've done the same thing as well, they all come into the UK as 'standard' 280ps cars then get tuned up officially in various stages, FQ300 (300ps) all the way up to the FQ400 with 400ps, the rumour always was that FQ stood for ******* quick!

Not to mention the R32 Skyline was '276hp' when the engine was actually designed for a safe 500hp. Just so happened there was big bright yellow tab on the boost control lines that got rid of a restriction for the electronic boost control when removed ;) And that bumped it up to 310hp

It was more of a gentlemen's agreement that the big companies just took as a guideline. Most of the big playstation generation names like the skyline and supra were well over 300.

all their cars are limited to 112mph top irrelevant of its engine size or horse power. what is the point?!

I guessed that there would be certain ways to 'unlock' the car's potential. I suppose the sort of people who would desperately want \ need the extra power would have the know how about how to get it whilst mugs like me who probably couldn't handle 350+hp are safe with the 276hp and not crashing into things!

I suppose it also stopped the euro power wars with the m356 and amg's.

It was a strange thing in the past. The Jap MKIV Supra was 280BHP And had ceramic impellors in the turbo but the UK got a superb pair of turbos with steel impellors and 326Bhp. With all that extra power in the UK They had to fit a hood scoop/intake... ;)

Why would an oil change effect a cars output?

Your oil pump takes marginally more power to run thick dirty oil through the galleys, with increased friction from poor viscosity and contamination itself also robbing power.

I've changed thick gloopy stuff, clearly not changed in years, and the difference pulling through the rev range was pretty significant.
