Hi,

I've just purchased an LG 27GP950 monitor.

I have a 3070ti graphics card, so HDMI 2.1 capable. It has 3 HDMI ports & 3 x Displayport.

I have 2 monitors to connect (the LG 27GP950 - 4K @ 120HZ + a 2nd cheaper monitor).

Should I connect them via HDMI or Displayport, for best picture & features?

Thanks!

Hi @Paul_RD - thanks for the reply. I've had a read through and noted.

DisplayPort 1.4 is generally better than HDMI 2.0, HDMI 2.1 technically beats DP 1.4, and DisplayPort 2.0 should trump HDMI 2.1. The problem is, you'll need to buy a TV rather than a monitor to get HDMI 2.1 right now, and we're not sure when DP 2.0 hardware will start shipping (RTX 40-series maybe).

For Nvidia gamers, your best option right now is a DisplayPort 1.4 connection to a G-Sync display. If you buy a new GeForce RTX 30-series card, however, HDMI 2.1 might be better (and it will probably be required if you want to connect your PC to a TV). Again, the only G-Sync Compatible displays out now with HDMI 2.1 are TVs.

I wondered if you could explain why you would use DP, and what benefits that would have please?

I've just got an LG 32GP850-B monitor and on the LG UK website at https://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-32gp850-b - under specs it has the following:

HDMI (Max. Resolution at Hz) (HDMI 2.0)
2560 x 1440 at 144Hz
DP (Max. Resolution at Hz) (DisplayPort 1.4)
2560 x 1440 at 165Hz (O/C 180Hz)

So, I used the DisplayPort cable to connect to my monitor.

For your LG 27GP950-B monitor on the LG UK website at https://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-27gp950-b - under specs it has the following:

HDMI (Max. Resolution at Hz) (HDMI 2.1)
3840 x 2160 at 120Hz
DP (Max. Resolution at Hz) (DisplayPort 1.4)
3840 x 2160 at 120Hz (DSC Off),
3840 x 2160 at 144Hz (DSC On)
3840 x 2160 at 160Hz (Overclocking, DSC On)

So providing the graphics card and the cable can support it, the potential for your monitor is higher with DisplayPort when compared to HDMI.
