Hi all,
Have seen what looks like a good value for money monitor, the OcUk value Hanns-G HG281DP 28" widescreen, listed under the 26" ones. Its only around £295, this will give me the 1900 x 1200 res, though for my X2 I'd ideally like the next res available but the cheapest one there around £670 ! I get good fps on my current 22" Dell but to take full advantage of my card it I think I need to improve the res. Do you think the prices are likely to drop in the not too distant future ? Or, perhaps, a little unrealistic and instead I should just go for the 28" ? Advice appreciated. :D

The 30" monitor you're talking about at £670 is the Hazro HZ30W I assume? If so then no - prices will not drop :p The Hazro i already about £300 cheaper than the next cheapest 30" screen, and as Gibbo has stated, the stock is very limited and won't be replaced. Given the state of the pound relative to the dollar, things will only get more expensive for the next few months at least.

If I were you, I'd consider getting the Hazro. I got one recently and I'm loving it. I have a GTX280 and it can handle most things at 2560*1600 nicely, so I'm sure your 4870x2 would eat them alive. The only games I have that my GTX won't run properly at full res are crysis and fallout3 (though an x2 would probably manage FO3). Playing these games at 1920*1200 is still great on the 30" hazro, when using 1:1 mapping (so there are black borders). The active screen size then is about the same size as a 23" monitor, so in the few cases you have to ue 1920 you don't lose much over a 24" screen.

As above... ^ ^ ^

Don't think they'll drop. Gibbo stated here that the well priced hazro's will be going up for reasons stated in this link: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13058014&postcount=10

The 1920x1200 res of the Hanns will still push your X2. TBH 2560x1600 is one heck of a load for any GPU. As soon as newer games appear that are tougher to run you'll probably end up having to run at a lower resolution anyway.

If you're going to do a lotof graphics and photo work then the 30" screens are a good idea - however if it was my money i would get something like a 26"-28" screen. Gaming is still great, desktop use is still pretty easy plus you won't need to upgrade your X2 so soon. :D
